ECHO is a physical transformation of sounds and environmental data into light. ECHO interacts with people and with the space that surrounds it. It becomes a link between agents and the environment, offering the possibility to view the physical space in a different way.

ECHO in LONDON

The hustle and bustle of a busy metropolis creates erratic wave patterns in ECHO's lights. This is reinforced by the chaotic gusts of wind cannoned by the city's buildings, causing a non-periodic movement of the blimps

ECHO in UCSB

A realization at UCSB would take advantage of the proximity of the sea. Unless ECHO receives a human input it finds itself in "environmental" mode, in which it is the space that determines its reaction. The sound of ocean waves is picked up by a microphone and propagated by ECHO periodically and with soothing regularity.
