Advances in technology
have opened up new possibilties for convergence
of media forms, but few of these have been adopted on a large scale.
Digitally mediated visual content still circulates primarily through
film, television, the internet and video games. On one hand, new
potential forms haven’t been adopted due to strong corporate
investment in existing forms, but on the other, due to cultural
attachment to traditional viewing practices. Though some media artists
have created projects to visualize hybrid media, there are few ways for a
typical viewer to experiment with and visualize alternate possibilities.
