Technorama Facade - The Swiss Science Center, Winterthur,
Switzerland. 2002 |

This project was developed for a competition for an interactive
art-work for the foyer of The Birmingham Hippodrome Theatre. The piece
is a facetted metallic surface that has potential to deform physically
in response to electronic stimuli from the environment (movement, sound,
light, etc). Driven by a bed of 896 pneumatic pistons, the dynamic 'terrains'
are generated as real-time calculations. |

Block Jam is a musical interface controlled by the arrangement
of 25 tangible blocks. By arranging the blocks musical phrases and sequences
are created, allowing multiple users to play and collaborate. The system
takes advantage of both graphical and tangible user interfaces. Each block
has a visual display and a combination of a gestural input and a click-able
input. Each Block metaphorically contains a sound group that can be chosen
via the gestural input, the click-able input changes a block functionally.
Thus, musically complex and engaging configurations can be rapidly assembled.

Harmonic Bridge - This sound sculpture will explore the musicality
of sounds hidden within the structure of the London Millennium Foot Bridge.
This bridge is alive with vibrations caused by the bridge’s responses
to the collective energy of footsteps, load and wind. This sonic world is
inaudible to the ear when walking over this bridge. It will be revealed
by the use of the accelerometers (which are vibration sensors) that are
listening to the inner dynamic motions of the bridge. Harmonic Bridge will
be realized by installing a network of live accelerometers on different
parts of the Bridge in order to acoustically map in real time its hidden
musical life. The live sonic mapping will be translated into an acoustic
sculpture by carefully rendering sounds from this listening network into
a spatial matrix of loudspeakers. Info | Video |
