Repermutation |
The CNSI building is a place where nature's structures are deconstructed at the atomic level and reconstructed as useful human artifacts by researchers in the physical, chemical, and biological, and media sciences. My proposed concept echoes this process of "repermutation" in the form of a monumental, constantly-reconfiguring puzzle. Mechanically actuated tiles together initially bear an image inspired by the work of CNSI researchers, and the tiles gradually shift one at a time with each research publication made by a scientist within the building. Over time, the original image is thus reconstructed into an abstract form, just as nature is reconstructed to serve our desires by the progress of scientific discovery. |
