Argument - Process - Physical Space - Psychological Aspects The central conceit of Peripheral Agency maps notions about self and perceptual disjunction to the optical geometry of the eyes and related cognitive functions. The Peripheral Agent For each person in the installation space (up to a certain maximum), the system assigns a Peripheral Agent. The Peripheral Agent continuously analyzes a person’s gaze in order to place the grouping of images described above in their appropriate location on the projection surfaces. As the person’s gaze shifts, the Peripheral Agent responds such that the geometric relation between the eye and the images remains fixed. Since the two images of the person’s face are always located at the periphery of vision where they are difficult to fully perceive, their psychological presence grows stronger when the person’s gaze shifts in an attempt to perceive them directly. |
