Description

modelTunes is an attempt to visualize profiles of Last.fm users. Last.fm is a social music platform that records music listening traits of its users and provides a personal radio according to their likes and dislikes. This visualization sketches the music listening habits of Last.fm users over weeks in a modified parallel planes fashion. It communicates diversities, deviations within a week and inbetween weeks while highlighting mainstream tendencies of the user.

In detail, artists listened over each week are lined up according to their similarities. These lines are moved on horizantal axis in order to line up mostly played artists on a central vertical axis. Reappearance of the same artist in the following weeks is communicated by lines connecting each appearance. Color code of the lines and size of squares are proportional to number of play count of each artist.
