Fusion
The Cortical Fusion team employed a highly interactive and collaborative process in creating the work. Each team member brought specific expertise to the table, ranging from music composition to sound design to visualization to software engineering. Yet all aspects of the design were also collaborative, allowing for out-of-the-box concepts from non-experts to inspire and inform every element.
In the case of the architectural design, a custom tool was built to facilitate group collaboration. Shown here, and built in Max/MSP/Jitter, the tool has a simple user interface to control the angle and displacement of each floor to the next, as well as changes in angle and displacement over time. This led to a rapid determination of the most aesthetically pleasing architectural arrangement, and one that was geometrically precise at the same time. This information was then entered into Maya for a more detailed rendering and fly-through.
