Plant Device Detail
- water Reservoir
- The water reservoir holds approximately 2 Liters of water and can be removed
for cleaning and for refilling.
- soil Container
- The soil container is designed to house enough soil for simple flowers and
common house plants. The soil has a layer of rocks at the bottom to allow for drainage
into the water reservoir below.
- sensors
- moisture
- The moisture sensor detects the average moisture content of the soil by calculating
the ambient relative humidity.
- temperature
- The temperature sensor is a basic thermometer with a sensitivity within
several degrees of an average room temperature.
- light
- The light sensor indicates the average ambient light of the room.
- circuit board
- location
- The chip is inserted into a compartment inside the wall of the device
so as to remain mostly hidden from view and protected from the water.
- wireless
- The board contains a wireless transmitter for automatically connecting to
network. The initial network setup is done through the website.
- data processing
- The board also contains the necessary digital components for initial
processing and packing of plant sensor data.
- music processing
- The board is programmed with the algorithms that convert the data
into musical and sonic representation.
- water pump
- When activated by the giver through the website, the simple vacuum pump delivers
10 ml of fertilized water from the reservoir to the soil. The user can activate
the pump as many times as needed to moisten the soil to the appropriate amount.
- water filter
- The water filter is designed to allow water to return into the water reservoir
thereby reducing the refill frequency.
- on/off switch
- control sound speaker
- loudspeaker
- The small mono loudspeaker is used to quietly broadcast a musical representation of the data derived
from the three primary plant state sensors. The music will mostly consist of either static or sine waves
depending on the health of the plant.
